ABSTRACT

Conic projections i n their normal aspects are map projections on which parallels are

represented by arcs of concentric circles, and meridians by a set o f straight lines

d rawn f rom the center of the circles. The angles between the meridians on the pro-

jec t ion and on the ellipsoid (or sphere) are p ropor t iona l . Consequently, a break i n

t ransformation on this type of project ion arises at the pole, which may be a po in t

(Figure 3.1) or one of the circular arcs.
