ABSTRACT

A l l the possible methods of obta ining projections are based on solving direct

and inverse problems of mathematical cartography.

The general equations for map projection, as noted above, have the fo rm

Functions f u f2 are obtained i n accordance w i t h the in i t i a l requirements or

condit ions imposed. They are called the t ransformation functions, and their applica-

t i on makes i t possible to determine the part icular formulas for local scale factors

and other project ion characteristics based on the equations of the general theory

(see section 1.3).
