In the past 20 years, there has been great interest in using poisonous substances from plants, animals and microorganisms in studies on animal physiology, looking for potential clinical applications. An example is the clinical use of botulinum toxin type A, which has been shown to be useful in various therapeutic approaches (Jankovic and Brin 1991).
