ABSTRACT

The root refers to the aorta between the annulus and the sinotubular junction (Figure 12.1). The diameter of the sinus of valsalva is measured as part of the minimum standard study. Levels for measuring the diameter of the aorta.

The thoracic aorta is divided into: (1) the root between the annulus and the top of the sinuses; (2) the ascending aorta between the sinotubular junction and the start of the innominate artery; (3) the arch between the innominate artery and 2 cm beyond the left sublavian artery; (4) the descending thoracic aorta from the isthmus 2 cm beyond the left sublavian artery and the diaphragm. The upper abdominal aorta around the level of the celiac axis is imaged from subcostal views. (a) Representative parasternal long-axis view of the aorta for measuring diameters at the annulus, sinus sinotubular junction and ascending aorta. (b) Suprasternal view for measuring the arch diameter.
