ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the significance of understanding and implementing issues of sustainability in organizations today. It documents an empirical study of the process of developing sustainable employee practices in Williamson Magor and Company Limited which is a multi-local, multi-business unit organization doing business globally. It throws light on what are some of the organizational and managerial changes that have occurred in response to environmental changes in India. It is concluded that the field of research dealing with the focus on sustainable employee practices and role of HRM is in its infancy. Some insights into different integrative mechanisms and subsequent HRM practices are underlined that both Indian and foreign companies are undertaking to compete through a sustainable advantage in this emerging market. The study conducted has been exploratory in nature, and issues of implementation and the involvement of the stakeholders remain a serious concern.
