ABSTRACT

Even with the pre-screening process, site-specific safety program reviews, and safety orientations, the host employer cannot be certain that the contractor will perform within defined job-site safety standards. At this point the human element must be introduced, this is the field engineer. Contrary to the fact that many contractors believe or would like to believe that their host employer is solely responsible for all work-related safety and health matters, it is each contractor's (employer) responsibility to see to the safety of his respective

employees. The role of the field engineer is to ensure that the contractors understand the job-site hazards and are clear as to what is expected of them and to coordinate intercontractor efforts and finally to oversee their compliance with the contract-specified safety requirements.
