ABSTRACT

Aphids are among the most important pests of agriculture and horticulture and negatively impact crops and ornamentals both through feeding on phloem and through transmission of plant viruses (Emden and Harrington 2007). Aphids vector almost half of the plant viruses of signifi cant economic importance (Miles 1989, Sylvester 1989). Aphid management is driven primarily by the application of classical chemical insecticides which can result in rapid selection for aphid resistance, and in loss of non-target organisms including honey bees.
