ABSTRACT
Sensing the status of significant operating parameters is the beginning step in the endeavor of being able to control and improve the quality of manufactured products. Earlier sections of this chapter have discussed the transducer elements that are available for measuring the various characteristics that define the status of a manufacturing operation. In addition, the use and analysis of the process information that is provided by these sensors has been discussed in previous chapters. However, before the transducer signal can be analyzed it must be transferred from the output of the measurement device to the equipment that is used for the display and/or manipulation of this information.
