ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview of braided composites. Different types of braided composites and their advantages and applications are briey discussed. Production routes of both thermosetting and thermoplastic braided composites are presented, and various properties such as in-plane mechanical properties, shear performance, crashworthiness, frictional and wear behavior, and surface adhesion with other matrices are discussed. Developments on self-sensing braided composites are also included. The last section of the chapter presents multiscale braided composites, which have been developed recently. Summary and future directions of research in the eld of braided composites are also included.
