ABSTRACT

The ability to decontaminate micro organ isms with a broadband pulsed light system has been demonstrated (Wick et al. 1998b; Wick et al. 2012c). This chapter will review the effects of the pulsed lamp decontamination on MS2 bacteriophage and tomato bushy stunt virus (TBSV). IVDS allows the data to be analyzed quickly, without the use of historical microbiological techniques. When such microbiological processes were used on Escherichia coli bacteria, mounds of Petri dishes were required and the results were not known until the cultures grew overnight. When other more fastidious microbes were cultured, the analysis time was usually even longer.
