ABSTRACT

In Puerto Rico, the green-shelled bean production averaged 1,169 tons/year, with an increase related to the release of the genotype Morales, which is currently the most popular white-seed bean variety in Puerto Rico [10], during the period from 2000 to 2003. The variety Morales has been widely accepted in Puerto Rico for its good yield characteristics, and resistance to bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) and to bean rust races prevalent in Puerto Rico [9]. In 2002, the total irrigated area in Puerto Rico was 15,782 ha [38].
