Let us suppose that the improvement scores of a group of five patients are as given in the following data editor:
We wish to test whether the mean score of all the patients can be assumed as 5.0.

Click on analyze menu, which will produce dropdown menu. Choose compare means from that and click on one-sample t-test. The resultant dialogue box is as shown below. In the dialogue box, the variable (score) is selected for analysis by transferring them to the test variable box on the right-hand side. Next, change the value in the test value box, which originally appears as zero to the one against which we are testing the sample mean. In this case, the value would be 5.0.
