Ecology is the scientific study of interactions among organisms and their environment, such as interactions organisms have with each other and with their abiotic environment. Ecology is an interdisciplinary field that includes biology and Earth science and both draw on chemistry and physics. Evolutionary concepts such as adaptation and natural selection are cornerstones of the modern ecological theory. The following are the core topics of ecology:
