ABSTRACT

Abstract: Health and safety issues are critically important in minimizing risks of accidents and occupational illnesses. This chapter serves as a comprehensive text to meet requirements of researchers, mining professionals, engineers, safety specialists, and students. The chapter is organized into five main sections: mine safety and health issues in underground coal mines, main hazards in coal mining and associated impacts on occupational health and safety, typical mine accidents, accident analysis and comparative costs, and effective mine safety and health management risk management including emergency preparedness and response.
