ABSTRACT

This chapter revisits all of the principles and objectives covered in Chapter 3 for particles, and now applies them to planar motion of rigid bodies. The objectives include deriving equations of motion using Newtonian and energy approaches, plus developing the principles of conservation of momentum for planar motion of a rigid body. You have presumably just completed Chapter 4 on planar kinematics of rigid bodies and understand the idea of planar motion for a rigid body.
