ABSTRACT

The field of statistics is faced with more opportunities, and more challenges, than ever before. The recent 2013 International Year of Statistics capstone event in London produced a report that stated the discipline “is as healthy as it ever has been, with robust growth in student enrollment, abundant new sources of data, and challenging problems to solve over the next century” (London Workshop, 2014, p. 5). To meet these challenges, the profession must bring all talent to bear, embrace, and engage diversity, and lead. Women as leaders are a dimension of that diversity, and are essential to the future success of the discipline. The goal of this book is to explore the role of statisticians, and particularly of women statisticians, as leaders.
