ABSTRACT

The increasing emphasis on the needs and opportunities for leadership development among professionals who have achieved technical success and prominence in scientific fields (Institute of Medicine, 1988, 2003) has included a greater recognition of the need for leadership development among biostatisticians (Rodriguez, 2012a). This need for greater leadership development among statisticians is being met in various ways, including texts, such as this one and via formal courses that are customized for delivery to statisticians; for example, two recent examples, specifically designed for biostatisticians, have been offered in schools of public health (Buchanich, 2012; LaVange, Sollecito, Steffen, Evarts, and Kosorok, 2012).
