ABSTRACT

Introduction With the rapid development of percutaneous interventional procedures for diseases that were once approached surgically, there has been a concomitant increased interest of intracardiac echocardiography (ICETM) in clinical settings, specically to assist transseptal le heart catheterization1,2 or transseptal catheter placement,3−5 radio-frequency catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias,6−8 and transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect (ASD)9−11 or patent foramen ovale (PFO).9,12

is chapter aims to provide interventional cardiologists with an overview of the use of the mechanical single-element system intracardiac echocardiography by Ultra ICE (IntraCardiac Ultrasound imaging catheter, EP Technologies, Boston Scientic Corporation, San Jose, California) (Table 7.1).
