ABSTRACT

Introduction Transcatheter pulmonic valve implantation (tPVR) was rst described by Philipp Bonhoeer et al. in 2000. In this initial report, a fresh bovine jugular vein containing a native biological valve was attached to a platinum iridium stent and implanted in a sheep model.1 Only 2 months aer this animal trial, the rst report of implantation of the valve in a human was published by the same group.2 ese initial reports marked the beginning of a new era in congenital and structural interventional cardiology. Bonhoeer’s valve design showed very successful clinical outcomes3-6 and was later acquired by Medtronic and renamed the Melody valve (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA).
