ABSTRACT

Device introduction Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a common congenital heart disease. e Starway Cardi-O-Fix ASD occluder is a selfexpandable, double-disk implantable device made from a nitinol wire mesh, similar to the Amplatzer septal occluder (St. Jude Medical, USA). e two disks are linked together by a short connecting waist corresponding to the size of the ASD. In order to increase its closing ability, the disks and the waist are lled with polyester fabric membranes (Figure  55.1). It is specically designed for the occlusion of ASD. ese occluders are available in sizes from 4 to ~44 mm and can be delivered through 6 F to ~14 F delivery sheaths depending on the required size of the device (Table 55.1). is type of ASD device has been widely used for transcatheter closure of secundum ASD.
