ABSTRACT

Over the decades, vibration measurements and vibration-based diagnosis techniques have been widely used in practice, which has made these techniques to be considered universally accepted tools for enhancing performance and safety of plants. Here, selected case studies that were summarized in an article by Sinha (2008) are presented with additional information to aid in a better understanding of the relevance and applications of these techniques. Although most of these case studies are related to nuclear power plants, the vibration-based diagnostic approaches used in them are applicable to most plants and industries. The presentations and discussions have been kept relatively simple, so as to enhance their practicability for engineers and researchers working in this area.
