ABSTRACT

An initial scope view is created to support the project approval process. We now need to realize that this preliminary attempt to document the project objectives only serves as a starting point for the project team. The initial view typically focuses on the logical requirement, but little focus in regard to the associated technical work requirements to achieve those goals. In order to structure the project work it is now necessary to translate the output requirements into work units required to produce those deliverables. Also, the initial verbiage outlining the project requirements was not rigorous enough to support a detailed planning process or to give other decision makers enough information to approve the initiative. The goal that we are looking for in this activity is to identify “the sum of the products, services, and results to be provided as a project” (PMI, 2013, p. 562). This activity has elements related to both an output goal and the project work related to that goal.
