ABSTRACT

Previous chapters have described the selection of specific metrics to track project status. The focus of this chapter is the use of these parameters in the management control process. Specifically, measurement of defined project metrics is the base mechanic for project monitoring and control. As the execution process unfolds project tasks will deviate from planned values: tasks are executed, execution status is measured, performance results are reported, and appropriate management controls are applied. Through use of these measures project status is assessed and used for corrective decision making and to communicate status to the project team and other stakeholders.
