ABSTRACT

Major surfactant actual and forecast consumption for the period 19801990 is shown in Table 1. Taken together, in 1985, these surface-active agents represent about 67% of the total surfactant usage worldwide not including COMECON countries. The percentage in the United States is 63% and in Western Europe 72%. Figure 2 shows how the total surfactant market is divided in the United States and Western Europe. For the United States the domestic, household, and personal care sectors account for 45%. Industrial and other uses account for the remaining 55%. In Western Europe the corresponding figures are 61% and 39%.
