ABSTRACT

Plant Description A large genus of 50-60 species from Europe and Asia, best known for the edible species, Asparagus officinalis. There are many species of Asparagus, that are cultivated as house and garden plants because of their fernlike foliage (Figure 58). Asparagus species have a rhizomatous roots with erect, spreading or climbing stems, bearing small scale-like, wedgeshaped leaves or thin branches or stems that function as leaves. The greenish yellow or white flowers are born singly or clusters. Fruits are bright red berries with 1-6 seeds.
