ABSTRACT

With the rise in peripheral vascular disease in the general population, there has been an increased awareness of the severe atherosclerotic disease affecting the aortoiliac arteries and the lower extremities. The disease progression is complex and can be multifactorial including any level of disease in the aorta, iliac, or infrainguinal arteries. There are many causes of narrowing of the aortoiliac arteries but the most common has been atherosclerotic disease. Occasionally, we will encounter other causes such as fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD), radiation fibrosis, and causes of vasculitis.
