ABSTRACT

It is often simply assumed that people with chronic illnesses such as asthma

are adherent with their treatments. However, poor adherence has been

repeatedly demonstrated across all disease types, treatment regimens, and

population groups. A review of adherence of long-term treatments for life-threatening disorders reveals mean adherence rates of approximately

50% (1). It should therefore be no surprise that between 30% and 70% of people with asthma have been shown to be poorly adherent (2).
