ABSTRACT

The most common pathologies of the voice are described here. A large majority of disorders are related to abuse, misuse, and psychogenic factors (1-9). This is particularly true in the context of occupational voice disorders. Major consideration should also be given to chemical and environmental issues. In a clinical environment, all voice problems are considered as a potential consequence of serious medical diseases (including laryngeal carcinoma) until proven otherwise. For this reason, this chapter begins with an overview of diseases and medical conditions that commonly affect the voice.
