ABSTRACT
Overexposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) causes approximately 60% of all
melanomas and 80% to 90% of all non-melanocytic skin cancers in the world
(1,2). Overexposure is most harmful during childhood, particularly in early
childhood (3-5). Overexposure must be avoided in terms of sunburn and its
contribution to the accumulation of UVR, as both the number of sunburns and
the accumulation of UVR are positively related to the risk of skin cancer. Over-
exposure to UVR also causes damage to the eyes and the immune system (6,7).
Targeting the behaviors and attitudes of pre-and primary school children and
their peers is, therefore, valuable.
