ABSTRACT

The practice of neurosurgery is one of continuous progression, striving to improve accuracy and reduce the morbidity of intracranial surgical procedures by using the latest technological advances in computational power, imaging, materials, electronics, and robotics. The field of neurosurgical navigation has been marked by explosive progress, with advances that have generated more user-friendly systems that are, typical of computer and industrial technology in this era less expensive and more broadly available. The increasing importance and reliability of contemporary interactive image-guided surgery has led this technology to become the standard of care for many intracranial procedures.
