ABSTRACT

Rutkove failed to find an increased prevalence of RLS in a patient population with neuropathy (10). In that study, 154 patients with PNP were prospectively evaluated for RLS. The diagnosis of PNPwasmade on the basis of American association of electrodiagnostic medicine criteria, the diagnosis of RLS wasmade on the basis of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders 1990 (11). Only eight patients with polyneuropathy (PNP) (5.2% of the sample) fulfilled RLS criteria (10). The RLS symptoms in two patients with Lyme disease associated neuropathy improved after antibiotic treatment. Although the authors come to a different conclusion, this figure of 5.2% is well within the prevalence of RLS in the general population.
