ABSTRACT

Objective evaluation of the function and dysfunction of the pelvic floor and associated disorders of defecation is a relatively new trend. Improvement in equipment and information has made the pelvic floor laboratory an essential element in the practice of medicine. The individual elements of the pelvic floor laboratory vary widely based on the influence of regional experience and preferences (1). A thorough investigation of the pelvic floor, with a judiciously selected panel of tests, will provide the practitioner with the best clues to evaluate and intervene in clinical disorders associated with continence.
