ABSTRACT

Lipomas are the most common, benign, nonepithelial tumors found in the colon. Although the most frequent site of gastrointestinal (GI) lipomas is the colon, the reported rates of colonic lipomas in autopsy and surgical series are low, ranging from 0.035% to 4% (1-4). There have been no malignant changes ever reported; therefore, colonic lipomas are considered to have no malignant potential (5-7). Of note, liposarcomas have been reported only in the small bowel (8-10).
