ABSTRACT
Diversion colitis and pouchitis are two nonspecific inflammatory bowel conditions that affect a large number of patients. Although diversion colitis rarely presents as a significant clinical problem, pouchitis remains a challenging clinical entity for the patient, gastroenterologist, and colon and rectal surgeon. Although both of these conditions are often medically managed, surgical intervention may be necessary in medically refractory cases.
