ABSTRACT
How can virtual environment (VE) technology be used for design? Many designers are beginning to realize the potential of VE for design, some have been using the tool for many years. However, there are still many people and companies who could benefit from this technology but do not know where to begin. In many cases, people are even unsure as to which questions they must find answers to. This chapter addresses these issues and provides a number of key questions to consider in the procurement of a VE based design solution. A classification scheme of VE solutions for design is put forward and is illustrated by examples from current design situations. These examples serve also to provide the reader with a starting point for their own solution.
