ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the reader to the field of ergonomic design and the notion that design should be human centered. An overview is given of activities that take place during human-centered design, followed by a brief discussion of design criteria and some of the models used to predict how well designs will perform. Laws, principles, and techniques that are part of ergonomic design are then discussed. Attention is also given to managementrelated activities and the overall role of ergonomic design within the firm.
