ABSTRACT

Government and industry response can be observed in the development of the National Plan for Aviation Human Factors (FAA, 1993), the Gore Commission report on aviation safety (Gore, 1997), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) promulgation of maintenance human factors (e.g., Hobbs & Williamson, 2002; ICAO, 1998), and including a current requirement for all countries to have human-factors training for maintenance personnel. In terms of literature, there have been a series of conferences devoted to human factors in aviation maintenance since 1990 (see https://hfskyway. com), books on the subject (Reason & Hobbs, 2003; Taylor & Christenson, 1998), and a special issue of International Journal of Industrial Engineering (Gramopadhye & Drury, 2000). Readers are referred to these sources for more detailed discussions.
