ABSTRACT

The aviation community is continuously striving to increase the efficiency and safety of the entire aviation system, which includes human operators (e.g., commercial airline pilots, general aviation pilots, and air traffic controllers [ATCs]), technology (i.e., hardware, software, automation, displays, and controls), and the interactions among human operators and technology. Addressing these complicated system interactions requires research toward the design and development of new system concepts; investigation of procedural, training, and communication issues; and the design and evaluation of avionics, equipment, and interfaces.
