ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION In the future, there will be more adults than children with congenital heart diseasethis already applies to Tetralogy of Fallot which is the commonest of the cyanotic lesions. Fewer than 20% of patients with congenital heart disease would survive to adult life without treatment. As a result of modern medical and surgical techniques, nearly all deaths now occur in adults and not children. As a result, there is an increasing population of patients with adult congenital heart disease who require long-term follow-up and who may require medical and surgical interventions during the course of their lives.
