ABSTRACT

Blepharoplasty describes any operation designed to correct congenital or acquired eyelid defects. Indications for functional upper lid blepharoplasty include senile blepharoptosis, levator aponeurosis dehiscence, entropion, paralytic lagophthalmos, and prolapsing orbital fat causing an upper visual field deficit. The usual indications for functional lower lid blepharoplasty include entropion, ectropion, scleral show, epiphora, senile lid laxity, and lateral canthal dystopia. The most common cosmetic blepharoplasty procedures include excision of redundant eyelid skin and prolapsing orbital fat, creation of a superior eyelid crease, revision of epicanthal folds, and excision of malar folds and festoons.
