ABSTRACT

Chutes are used as an inexpensive way to move products without electricity. Chutes use gravity as their driving force. That dictates that the surface of the chute has to have a low coefficient of friction to minimize drag on the product. There are many different materials used for chutes and slides such as plastic laminates (Formica), steel, stainless steel, and various plastics. By far the most popular is steel. Each has its advantages and disadvantages as detailed in Table 9.1.
