ABSTRACT

The development of prescriptive and monitoring systems for maritime navigation can be suitably explored within a GIS environment. It provides important database, visual and analysis functions that can be usefully integrated within a computing environment that simulates and controls ship displacements. This paper introduces an experimental prototype that simulates the concurrent displacement of several ships, monitors navigation risks and triggers appropriate routing decisions. The simulation model integrates maritime bathymetric data within a GIS computing environment that acts as the kernel of the prototype developed.
