ABSTRACT

The exact nature of the terms f1 and f2 will depend on the fringe analysis technique employed. For example, if phase shifting has been the basis of the technique, then the terms will be a series of intensity values taken from the same pixel location in a series of images, whereas if Fourier methods were the basis, then they will be respectively the imaginary and the real parts of the complex resulting from the inverse Fourier transform of the filtered spectrum. Obtaining the values for f1 and f2 has been the topic of the previous chapters in this volume. Whatever their origins, these values form a quotient, and we take the arctangent of this quotient to determine the phase.
