ABSTRACT
If the nature/extend of the damage, linked to qualitative SISD ratings, has indicated that further investigation is necessary before deciding on the nature and timing of any intervention, then the logical next step is a detailed assessment. This involves a more quantitative approach, with the emphasis on structural performance – strength, stiffness, serviceability, functionality – and on how this might be affected by deterioration. Before rushing into detailed calculations, it is prudent to recap on the overall perspective given in Section 5.3. There, the focus was on:
(a) Performance requirements to be looked at – an appropriate selection from Table 5.6, under the three major headings.
