ABSTRACT

Crockett et al. [23] mentioned that patients who regularly watched one or more reality television show reported the following: a greater in uence from television and media to pursue cosmetic surgery; felt more knowledgeable about cosmetic surgery in general; and felt that plastic surgery reality television was more similar to real life than did non-frequent viewers. e results of this study suggest that many patients come to o ces with unrealistic ideas and expectations regarding cosmetic procedures. e evaluation of the psychological pro le, expectations and knowledge about the technique may be helpful to improve the relationship between physicians and patients, especially when undergoing cosmetic procedures. Moreover, it is also important to manage their expectations, advise them about contraindications, possible side e ects and complications, including limitations of each indicated procedure.
