Lymphocytic cells produced in the bone marrow that are not processed further by the thymus gland.
β CELLS Cells in the islets of Langerhans in the endocrine pancreas that release insulin upon a glucose signal. When these cells are destroyed either through autoimmune destruction, viral-mediated destruction, or through chemicals such as alloxan or streptozotocin, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus results.
