The process of synthesis of the cell wall by association of its different components may be schematically summarized as follows:
1. Cell wall proteins are synthesized by membrane-bound ribosomes and become initially glycosylated in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER); they are then transported into vesicles through a series of membrane compartments where their glycosylation is terminated to …nally reach the cell surface.
