ABSTRACT
Orthotics is defined as the specialty relating to orthoses and their use.
The word ‘orthosis’ seems to be derived from a combination of the words ‘orthopaedic’ and ‘prosthesis’. It has now replaced the older terms ‘splint’, ‘brace’ and ‘calliper’.
