ABSTRACT

Ilyushin et al.16 investigated the tensile strength of a crystalline whisker of a synthetic calcium silicate hydrate. The result showed that the tensile strength of this whisker synthesized as a low Ca/ Si ratio calcium silicate hydrate (C/ S <1.5) and reached 1300 MPa, but one with a higher ratio had only half the strength of the former.16 Timashev17 synthesized single crystals of the low Ca/ Si ratio calcium silicate hydrates tobermorite, foshagite, and xonotlite which were shown to have tensile strengths around 1300 to 2000 MPa, but that of high Ca/ Si ratio calcium silicate hydrate is only 700 to 830 MPa.
