ABSTRACT

Approximately, 20% of the total body weight in healthy adult men and 25% in women is attributed to the adipose tissue (Tanzi and Fare, 2009). In the past, adipose tissue was primarily associated with energy storage. However, in more recent years, it has become clear that adipose tissue serves many other important functions, including the regulation of glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, feeding behavior, and inammatory responses (Trayhurn and Wood, 2004). Adipose tissue is constantly remodeled throughout life, and the appropriate adipose development and function are essential for long-term health.
